As a “set apart” woman or man, as a home-educating parent, part of the journey is learning to listen to others. Many times “others” come in the form of good books that contain insightful voices and good conversation. Many educators call these voices and good books “the great conversation.” Others have gone before us and leave a living legacy, if we’ll just make some time to listen. A large part of Heather’s Sanctified Woman vision is “setting apart” time to read good books and contemplate truth with others. Heather Shirley and her husband Ed started G.I.F.T. homeschool in 1999 where they have graduated two of their three children. In the early years of her family, Heather taught Precept Bible studies and then, in 2003, with her BA in Mathematical Engineering from University of Louisville, a reinvigorated love for learning and a heart to equip parents, Heather joined the budding Classical Conversations leadership team where she is able to serve and support parents who commit to learning alongside their children. in 2013, Heather received her CiRCE’s Master Teacher certification from the CiRCE Apprenticeship and is currently pursuing her MA in Humanities. Every year, whether Heather schools her own children or tutors other students, she discovers new and wider relationships between things. Her learning motto is: a learning life is a life of humility and entering in.
